Extra Care Required When Determining Length of Ridg-U-Rak Hook and Slot Beams
Ridg-U-Rak (RUR) has been manufacturing pallet rack for over 65 years. When they first started, standards for beam lengths were not established yet. They originally manufactured their Hook and Slot Beams shown below without including the connector hook thickness. For a 96″ beam length, the beam tube would be 96″, and the two connectors would equal an additional 3/8″. The total length for the beam was 96 3/8″ rather than 96″.

RUR has since changed the lengths of the beams to match the standard in today’s material handling industry. This means a 96″ beam includes the connector hook thickness. Since many customers chose not to adopt this new standard, many distributors still stock beams with the additional 3/8″.

Due to the reverse bend at the back of the upright, the best way to determine which beam length you have is to measure the distance between the middle of the two uprights. If your upright is 3″ wide, then the distance from the middle of one upright to the middle of the other upright will be 99″ or 99 3/8″. If you have the additional 3/8″, then your beam length is 96 3/8″.

To make sure the correct length is ordered from the manufacturer, RUR requires the form below to be filled out. This helps to ensure the right fit.
