How the Ridg-U-Rak Pellegrino Seismic Base Isolation System Works

This base isolation unit is positioned between the columns of an upright frame and anchored to the floor, allowing the rack structure to translate during earthquake activity. When the rack moves along with the shifting caused by the tremors, it allows for the contents and rack to move together, rather than have the contents shift and fall off of pallet rack that is bolted directly to the ground.

Seismic Base Testing

Ridg-U-Rak conducted more than 100 earthquake simulations with varying loads, product configurations and base arrangements at the Structural Engineering Earthquake Simulation Laboratory located at the State University of New York at Buffalo. These tests were conducted on a 23’ by 23’ shake table that operates in three dimensions to best replicate real world earthquakes.

Pellegrino System Benefits

The Pellegrino Seismic Base Isolation System meets new performance guidelines developed by FEMA. It does not cause obstructions to the pallet rack system and it will not impede the stocking or restocking of inventory. It requires no special palletization or storage techniques. The base system can be retrofitted for existing rack systems, can be used with pallet rack produced by manufacturers other than Ridg-U-Rak and the system can be moved, to allow for warehouse reconfiguration. It greatly reduces the risk of product loss and injury, can decrease insurance premiums and reduces the return-to-work delay that earthquake damage will cause.
