1. Tell us a little about yourself? Interests outside of work, family, pets, hobbies, entertainment, special talents.
I’m 29 years old, come from a family of 4, and have a girlfriend I truly adore because she’s as big a dork as I am. Various time of the day, we can be found breaking out in song and dance. The neighbors across the street must think, “the couple who just moved into the area sure dance a lot… no wonder they’re still not unpacked… after 2 months.”

2. What is your role in the organization?
I work at a company called WorkerBee.TV, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and we help clients all over North America leverage the power of video. My role here is video producer, which I recognize as a creative outlet of sorts. On any given day, I could be writing scripts, recording voice-overs, filming on camera, operating a camera, or interviewing some really interesting people. I have to admit, there are a lot of hats to be worn, but the work we do is truly rewarding.

3. How did your career path land you in this role?
My background is actually in broadcasting. I’ve been a radio announcer, sports anchor and a regional news reporter. I enjoyed the time I spent doing this, but after several years of being in the spotlight, I decided to see what it was like behind the camera. Subsequently, WorkerBee.TV was growing and needed someone to fill a production role, which made sense for me. I believe every video tells a story, so my story-telling experience was a real asset.

4. What is the most exciting aspect of your job?
The most exciting part of the job is that Aha moment when the people and organizations we serve finally realize the fruits of their labor with WorkerBee.TV. Video marketing solutions is a new and unfamiliar concept for most professionals in the B-2-B market, so often times the pay off is more then they actually expect – which is a great problem to have!

5. What makes yourself or your company unique and sets you apart from the rest of the industry?
I’m asked this question a lot, and rightly so. On the outside, we look like any other video production company. But if you examine the results we bring to our clients, you realize that we’re anything but. WorkerBee.TV is the only video provider today that offers turnkey solutions to video content marketing, video communications, and video monetization. In layman’s terms, we simplify the process of creating and distributing compelling video.
Is video complex? Sure, it can be. But we make sure it doesn’t have to be. WorkerBee.TV has created video distribution technology, and leverages exclusive networks to create great results for our clients.
These days, videos can be produced by just about anybody. But if the end is not kept in mind – reach, distribution, and strategic technology – then most videos created will fall short of accomplishing its intended goal.

6. What product do you feel has the biggest impact on the material handling industry and is often overlooked?
Simply put, the average human attention span is decreasing, which means the content that communicators publish today must be attention grabbing and attention sustaining. Video just happens to be a visual and audible medium, in which content can be communicated in less time than print, if done properly. Plus, it’s more entertaining.
For example, say you’re presented the same piece of content in two formats – online print and online video. Which would you gravitate towards? This is not to say that you wouldn’t read the print version. There is simply an evolving hierarchy in media and it suggests that video is quickly becoming the preferred way to consume content.
Another reason is mobility. More and more of our consumption is on smaller devices such as smartphones or tablets. Reading an article or navigating a brochure is not always easy on these platforms. A video works well on all screen sizes.

7. What is one tip or bit of advice that you can leave with our readers?
When it comes to video, content is king and distribution is queen. It’s not about your needs; it’s about your audiences’ needs. Give them content that they can find valuable, and they’ll give you their attention in return.
Also, pre-think the distribution of your content. How can it be used in your sales processes? How can it be used to convert visitors to your website into leads. How can it be used in your marketing outreach – email and social media? In other words, how will we define success and work backwards to define these answers?

8. What are the biggest changes you see with Material Handling in the future?
From my perspective and from my industry, the biggest change I see with storage is the shift in the way companies promote and market itself. More than ever, marketing departments are challenged with cutting through the clutter of competitors. In the next few years, you’ll see more and more dollars invested not on marketers, but in marketing technologists. In other words, companies will be looking for the next best way to market itself, and they’ll need to look to providers who can market products and services using the latest technologies. Video is just one of the players within that realm.
