What is a Pallet Flow Rack System?
Pallet flow racking is a first-in, first-out pallet storage system. This gravity flow system utilizes gravity and rollers to pull a lane of pallets forward into the picking face after removing the first pallet. This system offers high-density storage for multiple pallets of the same SKU number – it can store up to 20 pallets in one lane.
Pallet flow rack systems are custom-designed and engineered around your specific pallet. Depending on the shape and size of your pallet/product, you may need different-sized rollers or wheels. While oversized pallets with heavy loads may require industrial 2” metal rollers, smaller wheels/track systems could suffice for smaller loads.
Wheel and roller circumference and width vary as well. A larger circumference wheel or roller moves pallets more slowly than smaller wheels. Send the manufacturer a sample pallet with the exact dimensions and product to determine what rollers to use.

A sample pallet allows the manufacturer to test the pallet on the system and ensure the proper width, roller circumference, speed, etc. Many variables must be custom-engineered with pallet flow racking systems.
Manufacturers will install brake rollers to slow pallets, so they don’t come flying in. Pallet speed is another factor tested with a loaded pallet during the manufacturing process.
