Day-of-Caring-Team
The WPRP East Coast Team Members were happy to lend their helping hands to the United Way Day of Caring on September 17, 2015. This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for businesses/organizations, families and friends to get together and lend their time and talent to local nonprofit agencies. The Day of Caring is a hands-on event that allows for volunteers to make a difference in the community. Since nonprofit agencies quite often work on a limited budget, it is a wonderful relief to have volunteers fulfill tasks that might otherwise get overlooked. There is a need for large projects such as construction, landscaping and painting or smaller jobs such as filing or cleaning. There is something for everyone and every ability, and with the choice of either a half or full day obligation, this event can accommodate even the busiest of schedules.

WPRP was fortunate to be assigned to Equi-Librium. This facility provides therapeutic horsemanship for people with emotional, physical and cognitive special needs. Equi-librium empowers individuals ages 2 to 75 to reach their highest potential through horse related activities. East Coast Team members, Josh Smith, Linda Anlauf, Jackie Marchisin and Stephanie Thompson spent the afternoon power washing, painting and taking care of the small apple orchard on site. Horses love apples and get easily distracted when they are hanging low or have fallen to the ground! Other volunteers were on site as well, taking care of landscaping and tidying up the stables.

After our work was completed, we were given a tour of the facility and got to meet all of the four legged employees. They have several horses, ponies and miniature horses that provide many types of therapies, depending on the need of the individual. We were also given a bit of a history lesson about the grounds and the stables. The day concluded with an picnic for the volunteers at The Barley Creek Brewing Company.

It was a great day of team building and giving back to the community. At WPRP, Our Goal is to Help You and we don’t shy away from getting our hands dirty to do it! Check out your local United Way to see how you can get involved and maybe even get a team together for your local Day of Caring next year!
