Annual Barrett Scarecrow 5K RaceThe 14th Annual Barrett Scarecrow 5K Race takes place on Sunday, October 19th, in Cresco, PA. This is a fun family event for all ages and abilities with the proceeds benefitting http://www.alexslemonade.org. With about a month until race day, let’s see how our WPRP East Coast Team is preparing for this event!

Linda Anlauf – Linda is an avid runner, with many races tucked neatly under her belt. This time around she has taken first time runner, 11 year old Emma Thompson, under her wing to help her train. Linda has been supporting Emma by helping her to pace herself and breathe properly. Linda has also set up a half 5K, complete with water stops and fresh fruit at the finish line, so that Emma has an idea of how it will work on race day. Emma is training on her own with her family, but Linda takes her out weekly to run various terrains to change things up a bit.

Jackie Marchisin – Jackie has been training the funnest way possible, via the amusement park and state fair circuit. She put lots of miles in at the Magic Kingdom and trekked through Minnesota’s State Fair. She has also increased her stamina and lung capacity by hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail, via the Delaware Water Gap.

WPRP Fitness runStephanie Thompson – A rookie to the racing world, Stephanie was hoping that the Scarecrow would be her first 5K. Having given up running in junior high, Stephanie was starting at the bottom and working her way up with a couch to 5k plan. Unfortunately, a few weeks into the program, a fall (unrelated to running) resulted in not one, but TWO sprained ankles (Stephanie likes to commit). After being off of her feet and on ice for a few days, Stephanie resumed her program in the the swimming pool both running and swimming laps. After a few weeks she started walking, very slowly, for short periods of time. So, this race will not be Stephanie’s first 5K run, but she will walk it this year and keep her fingers crossed that she can keep both feet steadily on the ground, resume her training program and be ready to bust a move the next time around.
