Josh: I’m Josh Smith from WPRP. Welcome to our YouTube miniseries. I’m with Scott Dachel, and if you’re interested in buying a used mezzanine there are a couple things that you should know. Scott –

Scott: If you are looking at used mezzanines the biggest difference right now is about five years ago there was a change from UBC Code (Uniform Building Code) to IBC (International Building Code). With that change, if you are looking at a used mezzanine, the stairs on that used mezzanine are UBC Code, typically, and those do not conform to IBC Code. The difference on those stairs, is that the railings are much different. It used to be a looped rail that was just a guardrail. Now you have to have a handrail and guardrail on the stairs. Bottom line is when you make that change, or when you are looking at a used mezzanine, that stair is not going to be able to be used anymore, so you are going to have to get a new stair. If you are taking the mezzanine down and moving it, you have to replace the hardware. Once the hardware gets tensioned and tightened, it stretches and you cannot use that hardware over again. It voids the warranty with Wildeck, we have a 25 year warranty on our mezzanines and that hardware just cannot be used.

Josh: Thanks Scott!
